MEET DAVE FLELLO

David Flello is a musician and educator living in Victoria, BC.

His solo and ensemble trumpet performance experience spans multiple musical genres including orchestral, chamber, pit orchestra, jazz and commercial music. His conducting experience includes 40 years as an ensemble teacher in the Public and Private school systems in BC, which has included String ensembles, Choirs, Jazz ensembles, Concert Bands and Pit Orchestras. He has been a guest conductor with community ensembles on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the Central Interior of BC as well as the SaskTel International Jazz Festival. He has adjudicated for regional and international festivals in BC and Alberta.

David founded the Meridiem Wind Orchestra, a wind and percussion ensemble in Victoria in 2013. The ensemble performs contemporary and historic repertoire including premiers of Canadian works for an enthusiastic local audience. The group also presents clinics and performance practice direction for schools in Greater Victoria’s three school districts.

David is a life-long advocate for a mentorship style of music education. He believes that artists and the arts evolve most effectively through a professional, developmental relationship where experienced individuals guide mentees in career growth, skill-building and confidence.
