Why Yamaha Group Lesson for Children

Learning not only to play according to the sheet music but also going through listening, singing, reading, playing, and creating, children develop “comprehensive musical skills” that enable them to enjoy music freely, even as an adult.

Designed to meet the developmental stages of each age group, Yamaha programs foster the ability of children that develop well at specific ages. Through group lessons, children also learn social skills, cooperation, communication skills, concentration, and expressiveness.

1. GROUP LESSONS DEVELOP SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE

When playing music with other people, one thing is more important than anything else, even technique and skill: playing together as one. This is true in groups as large as orchestras and as small as ensembles. The concept translates to team sports, too. If there’s one thing children learn in group lessons at Yamaha Music School, it’s this.

We make it a point to teach children to play as one with their classmates in in-class ensembles. When children listen to others play, stay in time by making eye contact with each other when their respective parts begin, and maintain balance as they play, it’s a perfect picture of teamwork.

The singular experience of helping each other, teaching each other, and making music together yields inspiration and stimulation that cannot be found elsewhere. We hope you will give your child this wonderful opportunity to take group lessons and learn the skills they need to build trust-based relationships and accept other people as they are.

2. LEARNING PROCESS

At Yamaha Music School, children learn various ways to enjoy music while nurturing their sensibilities. The learning process involves listening, singing, playing instruments, reading music, and creating, all pivotal in enabling children to fully embrace and enjoy music.

Using a keyboard instrument, Yamaha nurtures not only the playing skills but also the ability to understand music from multiple angles through various mind-expanding experiences. We also cultivate children's rich creativity by helping them acquire and enhance sensitivity and imagination.

Children are empowered to reproduce melodies they hear on the spot, or compose and arrange music by putting their own feelings into the sound. Yamaha doesn't solely focus on playing techniques but also emphasizes the ability to express oneself through music.

Comprehensive education, covering listening to, singing, playing, and creating, is an important factor that enables children to fully embrace and enjoy music.

Create

After three years of lessons, typically by the time children are 5-6 years old, they not only learn to play music using sheet notation but also gain the skill to arrange tunes they hear and even create their own songs without relying on sheet music.

3. TIMELY EDUCATION

At Yamaha Music School, we believe in tailoring music education to match children's physical and mental development, ensuring they enjoy and easily embrace musical experiences. Introducing music early, at ages 2 and 3, significantly enhances children's sensitivity and lays the groundwork for active listening and expression. Ages 4 and 5 mark a period where focusing on 'listening' cultivates musical understanding and foundational skills.

From age 6 onwards, children demonstrate eagerness to engage and practice, benefiting from improved finger muscles for better 'playing' on a keyboard. Our comprehensive program equips them with fundamental keyboard skills, fostering their enthusiasm and confidence in playing.
