The Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a unique activity in which children under the age of 16, who have enrolled in Yamaha Music Education programs, perform their own original compositions.

In 1987, Yamaha Canada began the introduction of the Yamaha Grade Examination System (YGE). Yamaha grades are numbered in descending order, with 13 as the lowest and 1 as the highest.

The success of any music education program is dependent upon the excellence of the instructors. For that reason, the Yamaha Music Education System (YMES) begins with intense teacher training held semi-annually in Toronto.
