Michael Kim

Biography

As an in-demand session trumpet player and one of Canada’s top lead trumpet players, Michael focuses on precision and consistency. He is described as a “world-class lead trumpet player” by band leaders that frequent him in their lead chair. Also highly versatile, he is seen playing a wide array of genres.

As a big band leader of numerous years, Michael co-leads the Vancouver Legacy Jazz Orchestra with Fred Stride and runs his own ensembles: West Coast Big Band, Super Trumpets, and the online ensemble: Michael Kim Big Band.

Michael is honoured to be a Yamaha Artist.

A gifted trombonist, conductor, composer and arranger, world-renowned musician Wycliffe Gordon grew up in Waynesboro, Georgia in the United States. He was musically influenced at a young age by his father, Lucius Gordon, a classical pianist and teacher.
