Biography

Cameron Rawlins has established himself as one of Canada’s leading euphonium soloists and educators. Since 2019, he has served as Principal Euphonium, featured euphonium soloist, and assistant conductor of The Salvation Army’s Canadian Staff Band. He has also performed as Solo Euphonium with Canada’s premier professional brass band, the Hannaford Street Silver Band, and has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Bramwell Tovey. As a guest soloist, he has had the opportunity to perform with many other groups, such as the Weston Silver Band and the Ontario Provincial Honour Band, conducted by Robert Sheldon. In addition to his performing career, he is the Department Head of Music at Richmond Hill High School. He has maintained a private euphonium studio, adjudicated postsecondary euphonium recitals, and is a frequent guest soloist and conductor at music camps across North America.

Through his work with brass bands and as a soloist, Cameron has performed internationally in the United States, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malawi, Jamaica, Chile, and Argentina. Notable appearances include performances at Roy Thomson Hall, Massey Hall, and Koerner Hall in Toronto, and London’s Royal Albert Hall. He has collaborated with world-renowned artists including Jens Lindemann, Doc Severinsen, Patrick Sheridan, and Allen Vizzutti.

Cameron Rawlins holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Music in Euphonium Performance, all from the University of Toronto where he studied euphonium with Curtis Metcalf. Passionate about expanding the euphonium solo repertoire, he has commissioned and premiered several new solo works.

His recording credits include a featured solo on the Juno-nominated album, ‘Hymns Alive’ by the Toronto Mass Choir, multiple albums with the Canadian Staff Band—including ‘A Psalm of Praise’ and ‘Glorified’ as soloist—and ‘Journey in Brass’ with the Hannaford Street Silver Band, conducted by Alain Trudel. He has also been recorded for national broadcast on CBC Radio as part of an all-Beckwith event co-sponsored by New Music Concerts, and a featured performer on an episode of the CBC television series ‘Murdoch Mysteries’.

Cameron Rawlins is a Yamaha Performing Artist and plays the Yamaha Neo YEP-642TS exclusively. He is committed to inspiring young musicians through performance, teaching, conducting, and championing new music for the euphonium.
