For upright pianos

Placing Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panels between the soundboard of an upright piano and a wall reveals the true sound of bass tones and helps the pianist achieve more subtle musical expression.

For grand pianos

Placing Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panels between a grand piano and the walls around it (so that the panels surround the piano) lets each note be heard clearly and helps solid chords reverberate with more clarity and vigor.

Key point

Placing a Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panel on the floor beneath a grand piano is effective for improving the sound environment between the piano’s soundboard and the floor.

* The panel enhances resonance by diffusing sound.

Improving the sound environment of an entire room

When the musical instruments in a room are not fixed in place or when there is excessive reverberation, Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panels should be installed throughout the room. When acoustic problems occur, measures can be taken to solve them.

Installation example for a 10-tatami-mat room (177.5ft2) with this layout

  • Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panels should be staggered around the room, on or in front of the walls.
  • Curtains have sound-absorbing properties and should be used to reduce reverberation.
  • When the room has few curtains and little furniture, panels can be placed over free spaces on the walls to reduce reverberation.

Excessive reverberation

Use the guide below to determine how many panels are needed to counter excessive reverberation:

Room Area 20m2(215.2ft2 15m2(161.4ft2 10m2(107.6ft2
Number of Yamaha Acoustic Conditioning Panels 12 or more 9 or more 6 or more

*Ceiling is 2.4 m high.
