Yamaha Releases HS-I Models of Powered Studio Monitors Provide Greater Versatility for a Range of Installation Applications

June, 2016

June 1, 2016 - Yamaha today introduced the HS-I models of powered speakers that add mounting points to the popular HS Series studio monitors, making them compatible with a broader range of monitoring, sound reinforcement and installation environments. , Yamaha studio monitors have become a true industry standard and the preferred choice for sound professionals all over the world, ever since they made their debut in the 1970’s. Adhering to the Yamaha philosophy of sonic purity, the HS Series has carried on the tradition of one of the most trusted speakers for nearfield monitoring applications, lauded for their signature sound and superior accuracy.

The HS enclosures are constructed from a very dense and resilient MDF with a dampened acoustic response and employ a traditional three-way mitered-joint technique that firmly anchors the corners of the enclosure to dramatically improve durability and eliminate unwanted resonance.

By adding mounting points to the enclosure, HS-I models speakers can adapt to a much broader range of monitoring and installation applications. . With three optional bracket types available - wall, ceiling and baton - installation in studios or commercial environments with dimensions or surfaces that might otherwise present a challenge is greatly simplified.

“Our primary goal with the HS-I models was to respond to our customers’ feedback and requests. Since the debut of the HS Series, we have received many requests for rigging options, and it has always been a priority for us to pay close attention to the market and needs of our users and provide solutions as quickly and effectively as possible. ,” said Yoshi Tsugawa, director, Pro Audio Business Unit, Yamaha Corporation. “HS speakers are trusted by countless audio professionals around the world for studio monitoring applications. With the addition of very flexible mounting options, users can adapt these new models to commercial and professional spaces where superior sound quality and cost efficiency is a priority.”

Each HS Series model features a proprietary Yamaha transducer that achieves smooth response over a wide bandwidth. A highly efficient 1" dome tweeter considerably extends the usable frequency range, while the ultra-responsive woofer utilizes large, carefully selected magnets that produce low distortion sound with a well-defined bottom end at any output level. The amplifier features a bi-amp design with a separate dedicated amp for both the woofer and the tweeter, ensuring that each HS Series speaker consistently delivers high-resolution sound with a flat response across the sound spectrum.

Engineers at Yamaha harnessed an advanced noise reduction technology that incorporated a thorough analysis of a visual representation of the sound, to arrive at an ideal port design that resulted in a reduction of audible noise by up to 6dB.

HS Series full-range models also feature two response controls with detailed settings that allow them to adapt to the surface acoustics of rooms of varying shape and size; ROOM CONTROL and HIGH TRIM, as well as XLR and TRS phone jack inputs to accommodate a wide range of balanced and unbalanced sources such as mixers, keyboards and audio interfaces.
