Yamaha renews partnership with Show Choir Canada.

Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. would like to congratulate all the winners of the 2012 Show Choir Canada National Championships, held in Toronto last April at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

The organization’s mission to foster opportunities for show choirs in Canada was on full display as hundreds of high school students from 13 groups gathered to compete and perform for each other in front of a sold out venue.  The first place winner of the 2012 competition was SPLASH, from the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto’s west end.

The top six finalists were presented with product awards ranging from $1,000 to $7,500, for a total of $20,000 worth of prizes from Yamaha.

Fifth place winner “G Major” from St. George’s school in Montreal chose a pair of Yamaha DXR12 powered speakers for their music programme.  Now in its fourth year, “G Major” consists of 85 members, of which 50 are current students and 20 alumni.  The speakers have become “a huge addition to our program,” says Aaron Stamboulieh, music director.  “Our music department puts on concerts and those speakers are now the centrepiece of the performance.  In addition, the speakers have come in very useful during Glee rehearsals, and will be used as monitors in our annual musical.”

“Show Choir Canada has been an amazing opportunity for our kids at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts,” says Daniel Rocchi, referring to second place winner “Wexford Glee.”

“The work for rehearsal is always grueling, but the experience of performing in the competition is probably the high point of the year,” adds Rocchi.

Yamaha is again partnering with Show Choir Canada for the 2013 National Championships this April, increasing the total prize amount to $25,000 in musical instruments and related products.  This year’s competition will be held at the Queen Elizabeth theatre in Toronto on April 20 & 21.
