Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. has long supported Stratford Summer Music, the three-week music event that runs concurrently with the world-famous Stratford Festival.

After confirming the appearance of The Orchestra of Recycled Instruments of Paraguay at this year’s event, Stratford Summer Music Artistic Director John Miller asked if Yamaha Canada Music would be interested in helping the Canadian arts community in showing support and appreciation for this truly unique group.

Hailing from the city of Catuera, the Orchestra of Recycled Instruments is a mind-boggling creative effort. An innovative 18 member group of young musicians from Paraguay, the orchestra uses musical instruments made with recycled materials, resulting in a seamless combination of culture and social innovation.

To acknowledge their amazing gift of music, Yamaha Canada selected eight imperfect or damaged Yamaha VC5S acoustic cellos to be donated to the newly formed Music School in Cateura.
