Marie-Andrée Ostiguy, pianist and composer.

Recognized for her talents as a performer and composer, Marie-Andrée Ostiguy garnered a fourth nomination at the ADISQ Gala 2008 in the category Album of the year - instrumental, for her recent album of original compositions “Rêverie.” In March of the same year, the Québec Council of Arts and Literature awarded Marie-Andrée Ostiguy the Prix à la création artistique en Montérégie. This distinction emphasizes the rigueur of her work, her artistic integrity as well as her incontestable contribution to the cultural vitality of her region and recognizes that her public development activities in Québec, Canada and the U.S. contribute widely to the democratisation and broader appreciation of classical music.

Having attended the prestigious institutions of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, the Juilliard School of Music in New York, Indiana University, the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Université de Montréal, Marie-Andrée has also had the opportunity to further her musicianship with the renowned masters André Laplante, Gyorgy Sebok, Shigeo Neriki, Jacinthe Couture and Henri Brassard.

Because of her unique style to interest and entertain the public with passionate performances of classical works and her original compositions, Marie-Andrée has not only charmed Québec and Canada with her music, but also the United States. Following an American tour that brought her to perform at the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival in Los Angeles (California) in 2003, Marie-Andrée played a sold-out performance at the Cinquième Salle de la Place des Arts.

In the pursuit of her objective to bring a wider public to appreciate classical and instrumental music, Marie-Andrée presents cultural evenings entitled “Concerts-Salon” in her artist studio in Beloeil. She also hosts “Rendez-Vous en Musique” - a monthly television show of interviews and musical performances on channel TVR-S (canal VOX).

Very active in her community, she was, among others, president of the Richelieu Valley Cultural Table for four years and head judge for the Festival de Lanaudière music competition for two years. In May 2004, she became the honorary president of the Salon des Arts de Brossard and of the regional organization of the Relay for Life, organised by the Canadian Cancer Society. Marie-Andrée has a rich taste for learning, a great enthusiasm for getting involved in a constructive way, sharing her experience and lending her expertise. Currently, she is composing new works and preparing the repertoire for a new recital entitled “Chopin Celebration 1810”. This new solo program will celebrate the music and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frédéric Chopin.

She just released her new CD, Rêverie, a collection of sixteen original compositions for piano and string quartet.
