MEET GREG COLLEY

Greg Colley has served as the Head of Music at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School in Markham since 2004. Under his leadership, the program has grown substantially and now welcomes more than 500 students annually. He conducts the Grade 11 and Grade 12 Wind Symphonies and serves as a staff advisor to the Music Council. Greg has also been a sessional lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, teaching instrumental rehearsal and conducting techniques, as well as at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in instrumental music. At Musicfest Canada, “The Nationals,” he received the prestigious Keith Mann Award, recognizing him as an outstanding band director.

A graduate of the University of Toronto, Greg holds degrees from both the Faculty of Music and OISE—where he studied trumpet and music education. He has presented sessions at the Ontario Music Educators’ Association (OMEA) conference on ensemble tone and intonation pedagogy, and his writing has been featured by the Ontario Band Association. Greg remains active across the province as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator.

Greg currently serves as conductor and president of Markham Winds, a community music organization dedicated to fostering exceptional musical experiences and promoting artistic excellence in the wind ensemble repertoire.

Within the Salvation Army, Greg is the bandmaster of the Yorkminster Citadel Band, which has grown to more than 30 members ranging in age from early teens to seniors. Greg is happily married to his wife, Elizabeth, and they are the proud parents of three adult children: Brendan, Ryan, and Caitlin.
